Watching this near-miss compilation, I noticed that almost half of the rear tyre slides happen just after a change in the road surface. The road goes light-grey to dark-grey to light-grey again, and the tyres don't seem to like that at lean.

Yeah, kind of interesting. Most looked to be on the same corner, though I guess it could also just be that is the point in the bend that people screw up, but the correlation does look enough to warrant more research.
ReplyDeleteIt makes sense too really - a change in road surface that may involve a little raised section or drop, and a change in grip properties.
Some of those near-misses were a bit scary too...
